Common Issues Affecting Windows

Door and Window Issues

We know that staying on top of household jobs can be hard work. You’ve been meaning to get your double glazing checked out but time has flown by, and now winter is just around the corner. With its energy bill reductions, increased security, and ability to stop dampness and condensation, now is not the time to put off having your double glazing repaired.

So what are two common issues you may be having and how can the team at Lakeside Locks help?

The Issue: Misting

If moisture or ‘misting’ has appeared between your double-glazed glass panes, your units will, unfortunately, need some repairs. When misting or condensation appears between the glass panes, your windows are no longer a sealed unit. This means that all of the benefits of having double-glazing will no longer be working the way they should.

There are several reasons why a seal can break including the age and condition of the unit or the use of chemical cleaning products that have degraded the seal over time.

When it’s lovely and warm outside it can be easy to put off having your unit repaired, but when it’s getting frosty you’ll want to keep your home as warm and energy-efficient as possible. There’s no need to worry though.

Window misting is often caused by a broken or faulty seal, not the window frame itself.

The Solution:

If your window frame is still in good condition, we’ll only need to replace the misted glass panel for you. This means that you’ll have the peace of mind that comes with a brand-new system that is in perfect working condition. Plus, your new window panels will be under warranty in the unlikely instance that something goes wrong again.

The Issue: Difficulties Opening, Closing, or Locking Windows

Keeping your home safe and secure is at the forefront of our minds. Not only is a faulty handle a hassle for you, but it also weakens your home security by offering a weak point that an opportunist thief could exploit. If you’re having any issues with closing, opening or locking your windows we want you to contact us as soon as possible so we can come and take a look.

Window locks can break through old age or general wear and tear. To keep reparation and replacement costs down, you can maintain your locks yourself by regularly oiling the locking mechanisms and making sure that they’re free of debris. A regular wash with a soft sponge and some warm soapy water will help to keep dirt away and keep your windows sparkling. If you want to go the extra mile you can also inspect the seals, especially around the corners where grime can build up. Be careful of using any cleaning products with strong chemicals- soapy water works just fine here too!

The Solution

If you have noticed a change in how your windows are locking or opening, get in touch with us. Our team will start by popping round and inspecting your window unit to get to the root of the problem. Once we have identified the issue we’ll talk you through your options. When you’re happy, we’ll get to work straight away. In most cases, the issue is with the window handle.

Luckily we are experts at what we do and can get your faulty handles replaced faster than you can make a cup of tea.

Here at Lakeside Locks, we are specialists at what we do, whether that’s misted or broken down double glazing, faulty locks, or broken handles we’ll be pleased to help.
